On 14 March 2023, Boise Police Department (BPD) bomb squad technicians responded to a thrift store due to reports of a potentially explosive item among the donations. Technicians examined the ordnance, described as a “pineapple-style hand grenade,” (Mk 2) and determined the device to be inert. The BPD bomb squad also responded to a storage unit after an auction winner discovered what was described as a “military mortar round” (81mm practice mortar) inside the unit. BPD and EOD technicians from Mountain Home Air Force Base removed the device from the scene.
