Italy: Multiple Attempted IID Attacks on TV and Telephone Towers

TRIPwire, 22 March 2023 On 20 March 2023, local police and investigators responded to Pizzorne heights in Pietrapertusa, after unidentified suspects attempted multiple improvised incendiary device (IID) attacks on two TV and telephone towers located near each other. The suspects placed the IIDs, described as “several plastic bottles full of liquid” with a “trigger held together by adhesive tape” and made up of coil and matches, around the two towers. According to investigators, the IIDs failed to fully ignite due to high humidity or unexpected rain. No further device details have been released, and no injuries were reported. Graffiti nearby suggests an anarchist motive. The investigation is ongoing.
