Italy: Explosive Device Functioned in Vehicle

TRIPwire, 23 March 2023 On 21 March 2023, the Carabinieri and fire crews responded to an alley in Bacoli, Naples, after an explosive device functioned in the vehicle of a Guardia di Finanza officer, setting the car on fire. A local bomb squad unit also responded to assist. According to media reporting, explosives were found in the rear of the vehicle, but no further device details have been released. The blast scattered debris along the road and flames from the fire spread to nearby homes. The 35-year-old officer suffered minor injuries as he escaped the vehicle through a window. The incident remains under investigation.
