Authorities were originally alerted by the father of the tenant, who had gone to check on his son but could not enter the apartment. Authorities initially discovered 27 improvised grenades on 19 March at a Meadville home after the homeowner reported the presence of possible explosive devices. That discovery led authorities on 20 March to a cache of 56 additional improvised grenades at a home outside of Meadville. Investigators also discovered large amounts of energetic powders at the second home.
