On 8 June 2022, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a construction work zone in the Greenhead area after observing a male behaving suspiciously. The 28-year-old suspect provided consent for his backpack to be searched, where deputies discovered an IED, described as a pipe bomb with no initiator, among weapons and drug paraphernalia. No further device details have been released. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of explosives, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 7 June 2022, at approximately 2200 hours local time, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) responded to a report of a suspicious device discovered in a dumpster near Kamiah. Deputies examined the device and determined it was an IED, described as resembling a pipe bomb. A photo released of the device depicts a black cylindrical device with a rectangular object on the side of it covered in black electrical tape. The Spokane County Explosive Device Unit responded to the scene and rendered the device safe. No further device details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

On 7 June 2022, at approximately 1115 hours local time, Minot Police Department (MPD) officers arrested a 36-year-old suspect at his workplace in Southeast Minot under suspicion that he had made an online threat against a local hospital on 1 June. A subsequent search of the suspect’s Northwest Minot home uncovered two explosive devices and seven firearms. MPD Bomb Squad and Minot Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians removed the devices and rendered them safe. MPD officers also recovered a firearm from the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of an explosive device, eight counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of terrorizing, one count of menacing, and one count of harassment.

On 7 June 2022, the Bethel Park Police Department executed a search warrant on a Bethel Park home where more than 10 IEDs, weapons, and drugs were found. ATF agents and Allegheny County Police Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and safely removed the IEDs from the home. Authorities released an X-ray of one of the devices which depicted a cylindrical container with a fuse protruding out of the center. Police also stated that the IEDs contained fragmentation and a large quantity of explosive powder. Three suspects living in the residence with alleged ties to a motorcycle club, were arrested and charged with 11 counts of weapons of mass destruction, causing or risking a catastrophe, criminal conspiracy, and drug possession/paraphernalia charges.

On 5 June 2022, at approximately 0137 hours local time, Arkansas State Capitol Police and Little Rock Police Department officers responded after a 31-year-old male suspect threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, toward the Capitol building in Little Rock, which subsequently started a fire on the grass. The suspect threw a second IID at the Confederate Soldiers of Arkansas monument, setting it on fire. The suspect was found in possession of a glass bottle filled with liquid that smelled like gasoline with a paper-towel type material inserted into it and used as a wick as he was arrested. Police also found a gasoline canister in the suspect’s vehicle and the Little Rock Fire Department fire marshal and bomb squad unit, and ATF responded to assist. The suspect was charged with a federal offense of possession of an unregistered firearm or destructive device, and two misdemeanor counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and a misdemeanor violation of the Arkansas State Capitol and Historical Monument Protection Act.

On 7 June 2022, at approximately 2300 hours local time, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Border Security Forces (BSF) fired upon an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) which dropped three IEDs in the Dayaran area of Kanachak. BSF recovered the IEDs, described as magnetic IEDs which are designed to adhere to their target, contained inside children’s tiffin boxes with timers set to various intervals. The devices were rendered safe via controlled detonations. This was the second attempt to smuggle arms across the border via drone in the last 10 days. The investigation is ongoing.
