On 19 March 2021, personnel with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Agency, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and ATF discovered bomb-making material (BMM), including steel cylinders, fuses, and gunpowder, at a 40-year-old man’s Keystone Heights home. Authorities also seized 75 grams of dimethyltryptamine (DMT), 5 firearms, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, drugs, and drug precursor chemicals. Investigators identified the suspect after HSI agents seized two packages from Lima, Peru, containing Mescaline. Authorities have yet to determine the suspect’s intent behind possessing the BMM and believe he used his home to manufacture the DMT. The suspect was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers also seized firearms and body armor found on the suspect but did not disclose additional details about the IEDs. Authorities initially responded after receiving information from the Versailles Police Department that the suspect was potentially armed and dangerous and had entered the hospital to visit a relative.
