On 28 August 2018 at approximately 0500 hours local time, an improvised incendiary device (IID) was thrown at a Sikh temple in Edinburgh. Initial police reports stated that the IID set fire to the front door of the temple and that there was significant smoke damage. A detective inspector from the Gayfield Criminal Investigation Division stated that the fire was extinguished relatively quickly and that no one was injured. At approximately 0700, a suspicious fire occurred at a nearby Methodist church. A 49-year-old male suspect was arrested in connection with both incidents. No further details were released.

On 9 September 2019, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) discovered an IED in a vehicle during a major security operation in the Creggan area of Derry. The Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe the command wire-initiated IED intended to be used against a Creggan-area police patrol. A crowd of 60 to 100 onlookers gathered during the operation and some attacked police vehicles with over 40 improvised incendiary devices (IIDs). At least 2 people sustained burn injuries while trying to attack the police cordon, but no officers were injured. The police operation involved approximately 80 officers targeting the New IRA after an improvised mortar was discovered in Strabane on 7 September.

On 16 July 2020, at approximately 0100 hours local time, officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland responded to a housing development in Londonderry after unidentified suspects threw three improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as petrol bombs, over a security fence. No property damage was reported to the housing development. The suspects also threw IIDs at the responding officers, breaking the window of their vehicle. No injuries were reported. The attack was the second reported incident this week targeting the housing development and police officers. The investigation is ongoing.

An estimated 20 IIDs were subsequently thrown at PSNI officers following the annual Apprentice Boys parade, one of Northern Ireland’s biggest parades. On 28 May 2018, officers from the Police Service of Northern Island (PSNI) came under attack by juveniles, who threw improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) at them, in Londonderry. The PSNI officers were responding to the sudden death of a woman at a house in the Bogside area. While officers waited for undertakers and forensic teams to arrive, they were attacked by juveniles; many of whom wore masks, who threw stones, bottles, masonry, paint, and IIDs during the attack. Media sources reported that the youths used wooden pallets to set fire and barricade a street in the area. No further information was reported on possible injuries and/or arrests.
