On 22 April 2021, at approximately 2300 hours local time, authorities seized two IEDs described as pipe bombs, bomb-making material (BMM) including gunpowder, and a large quantity of firearms and ammunition at a Drogheda residence functioning as a “bomb-making facility.” An Irish Ordnance Corps EOD team responded to assist. EOD technicians examined the pipe bombs and BMM, then removed them from the scene. During the search, authorities also discovered a variety of narcotics. According to authorities, the IEDs were intended for an imminent attack on associates of a local mob boss. A feud between two rival groups has resulted in at least 100 violent incidents, including pipe bomb attacks, since 2018. Two suspects were arrested and have been charged under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. The investigation is ongoing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Bomb Squad responded to assist. Bomb squad technicians determined the IEDs could not be detonated remotely and removed them from the scene. CCSO deputies and MSHP troopers searched the area but did not find any additional explosive devices. The investigation is ongoing.

No additional explosives were found, but police recovered a 12-gauge shotgun that the suspect, a felon, was not allowed to possess. The suspect claimed to have found the IED in an abandoned house and admitted to detonating it. The suspect was charged with second-degree malicious placement of explosives, second-degree malicious mischief involving explosives, first-degree arson, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. The FBI and ATF assisted with the investigation.
