On 22 April 2021, at approximately 1900 hours local time, Mustang Police Department officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence and found an IED, described as an unknown object wrapped in black tape with two wires, in the backpack of a male suspect. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad responded to assist and removed the device. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession/use/manufacture of, or threatening to use, incendiary devices or explosives. The investigation is ongoing.

On 26 March 2021, at approximately 1600 hours local time, security forces responded after a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED) detonated outside Corinto’s city hall in the Cauca Department, injuring at least 18 people. Investigators believe the VBIED was remotely detonated but have not released further device details. Authorities suspect a dissident group of the now-demobilized Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) perpetrated the attack. This is the latest attack by the dissident group, which maintains a strong presence in Cauca, since its members refused to demobilize in 2016. The investigation is ongoing.

Another suspect was arrested for possession of unspecified “extremist material.” The two suspects may have been part of a white supremacist extremist group. Authorities did not provide further details about the raids, and the investigations are ongoing.

Somali authorities believe the attack was carried out by al Shabaab, which had attacked two military bases outside the city hours earlier using vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIEDs). On 24 April 2021, at approximately 0041 hours local time, Terre Haute Police Department (THPD) officers responded to a small fire near the police station and discovered the remnants of an IED, described as a red gas container containing paint thinner, .22 caliber rifle ammunition, and nails. THPD officers arrested a 50-year-old male suspect after tracing purchases of the bomb-making material (BMM) used in the device and receiving several tips on social media. A search of the suspect’s house found a receipt for the BMM and an empty box of .22 caliber ammunition. The suspect has been charged with possession of a destructive device and attempted arson.

On 13 April 2021, Duplin County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) deputies searched two Mount Olive residences belonging to a suspected gang member, where they seized seven IEDs, methamphetamine, and several firearms. The Wilmington Police Department Bomb Squad and ATF responded to assist. Bomb squad technicians examined the devices, described as pipe bombs, and rendered them safe. The suspect was arrested and taken into Federal custody.

On 27 April 2021, at approximately 1930 hours local time, Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies discovered an explosive device while conducting a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in a Cornelius neighborhood. The Portland Police Bureau Explosive Disposal Unit responded to assist and removed the device. No further device details were provided. WCSO deputies arrested the 34-year-old male driver for possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and possession of a destructive device.
