On 22 June 2022, at approximately 1845 hours local time, York Regional Police officers responded to a Newmarket shopping mall after a suspect functioned an improvised incendiary device (IID) in a planter box at the food court and fled the scene. No further device details have been released, and no injuries were reported. A K-9 unit tracked and arrested the 19-year-old suspect who was charged with arson with disregard for human life, unlawful possession of explosives, and use of explosives with intent to destroy property and possession to endanger life. The investigation is ongoing.

On 14 June 2022, at approximately 1400 hours local time, Napa County Sheriff’s Department (NCSD) deputies executed a search warrant at a suspect’s home in American Canyon and discovered bomb-making material (BMM), including flash powder, black powder, explosive precursor chemicals (EPCs), “fusing systems”, remote controls, containers designed to confine explosives, and an explosive cookbook. NCSD deputies also determined that the suspect had built and functioned multiple IEDs which were described as similar to M-type devices. No further device details were provided. The 55-year-old suspect was previously arrested on 4 June after American Canyon Police Department officers responded to Kilpatrick Street where they found him in possession of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and discovered that he had been initiating IEDs from the UAS. He was arrested and charged with possession of an explosive device, possession of materials with intent to construct an explosive device, and possession of a controlled substance.

On 17 May 2022, at approximately 1222 hours local time, Haywood County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD) deputies responded to a rural residence and discovered two pipe bombs in the residence. No further device details have been released. HCSD deputies arrested the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Stanton resident. Federal investigators are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

On 7 June 2022, at approximately 1115 hours local time, Minot Police Department (MPD) officers arrested a 36-year-old suspect at his workplace in Southeast Minot under suspicion that he had made an online threat against a local hospital on 1 June. A subsequent search of the suspect’s Northwest Minot home uncovered two explosive devices and seven firearms. MPD Bomb Squad and Minot Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians removed the devices and rendered them safe. MPD officers also recovered a firearm from the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of an explosive device, eight counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of terrorizing, one count of menacing, and one count of harassment.

On 20 June 2022, at approximately 1830 hours local time, Lamitan City Police officers responded to the Lamitan City Hall building in Basilan after two unidentified male suspects riding a motorcycle threw a bag containing the IED at the gate of the compound. No further device details have been released. The blast damaged a water pipe and part of the building’s exterior wall, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

The local bomb disposal squad responded to assist and examined the devices describing them as seven magnetic explosive devices designed to adhere to their target, and seven 40 mm grenades designed to be fired by an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL). The investigation is ongoing.

On 23 June 2022, at approximately 0930 hours local time, a man began shooting at Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies as they were serving a warrant at his mobile home in Fort Worth. A Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team responded to assist and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. During the standoff, the suspect dropped improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) on his front porch, starting a fire which quickly spread to the house and left one TCSO deputy injured from fragmentation. No further device details have been released. Tarrant County Fire Department crews extinguished the fire and found the suspect’s body inside the home.
