On 30 April 2019, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a Grovetown residence after a Division of Family and Children Services representative reported the possible presence of drugs and explosive materials in the residence. The deputies found two pipe bombs; one was rendered safe by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the other was determined to be non-functional and removed from the scene. CCSO deputies arrested a 35-year-old male resident for felony possession of a firearm, and a CCSO spokesperson told local press that the ATF is pursuing additional explosives-related charges.

On 21 June 2019 at approximately 1630 hours local time, officers from the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of an explosion in the backyard of a house and found a 38-year-old male who was injured after an object containing fragmentation exploded in his hands. The injured male claimed to have found instructions on making explosive substances on the Internet. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department found bomb-making materials, narcotics, weapons, and substances used in the production of methamphetamines at the residence. The DEA Narcotics Task Force also responded to the incident. The following day, San Diego Fire Bomb Squad technicians rendered safe the associated components found inside the residence.

On 5 September 2019, Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department officers, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Bomb and Hazardous Device Disposal Unit, and agents with the FBI, ATF, and DoD responded to a private residence. Inside the residence, officers discovered a massive cache of weapons which included a military ordnance, guns, ammunition, and swords. Officers arrested the homeowner at the scene, and the incident is under investigation.

Police arrested a potential male suspect on an unrelated charge near the explosion site. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

On 7 May 2019, Tremont Borough Police Department officers executing a search warrant at a residence discovered an explosive device, drugs, and various drug paraphernalia. A 25-year-old male was arrested and charged with possession of weapons of mass destruction, prohibited offensive weapons, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. There was no further information on the explosive device. On 27 July 2019, officers from the Salt Lake City Police Department responding to a suspicious person call were targeted in an improvised incendiary device (IID) attack. When officers tried to initiate contact with the male suspect, who also had a large knife in his possession, he threw a bag at them that contained an ignited Molotov cocktail-type device, which failed to initiate. Police officers were able to neutralize the threat using non-lethal means and arrested the individual.
