UPDATE Nevada: Explosive Material Found in Gunman’s Car
TRIPwire, 05 October 2017, 0700
On 04 October 2017, a Clark County Sheriff Office (CCSO) spokesman provided further details on the explosives found in the vehicle of the Las Vegas shooter. In addition to the ammonium nitrate, two 20-pound containers of Tannerite and an additional 10 one-pound containers of Tannerite were discovered in the gunman’s vehicle. There was also 1,600 rounds of ammunition found in the car. In addition, local press claimed that the suspect fired upon two jet-fuel storage tanks near the concert to possibly cause an explosion. Bullet holes were found in the fuel storage containers.
On 2 October 2017, investigators with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) confirmed that several pounds of ammonium nitrate was discovered in the car of the Las Vegas shooter. Investigators also discovered Tannerite in the suspect’s home. Ammonium nitrate is a widely available fertilizer, which was used in the Oklahoma City Bombing. Tannerite is a brand of exploding target material, which is a nitrate-based compound. The 2016 New York and New Jersey bombings used a chemical similar to Tannerite as the main charge. Police declined to comment on why they believe the shooter was in possession of the material.

On 27 July 2019, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded to reports of a failed mortar attack on a police patrol in County Armagh, southwest of Belfast. Police determined that the initial reports of a mortar attack were false, and officers discovered a victim-operated IED (VOIED) designed to look like a fired mortar tube. An army bomb squad responded to the scene and rendered safe the device. Authorities say the false report of a mortar attack was intended to lure first responders to the area, where they would have inadvertently functioned the VOIED when touching or moving it. No group claimed responsibility for the incident, but police suspect the separatist group Continuity IRA is likely responsible.
