On 17 May 2021, at approximately 0222 hours local time, an Austin Police Department officer found an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, along with several empty glass bottles after receiving a report of a man with several gasoline cans lined up along the street with a fire burning near them. The officer moved the gas cans to prevent the gasoline from igniting. No injuries or damages were reported. The 28-year-old suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, first claimed he was storing gas in the glass bottle because he had nowhere else to store it and the rag in the top of the bottle was for preventing spills, but later claimed to want to burn down his home and trailers.
