New Hampshire: Possible IID Thrown at Vehicles

On 22 January 2025, at approximately 1950 hours local time, Nashua Police Department officers and Nashua Fire Rescue crews responded to the 60th block of West Hollis Street in Nashua following reports of two passenger cars and a pick-up truck on fire in the area. Crews extinguished the fires, and no injuries were reported. According to police, video camera footage captured an unidentified suspect with a possible improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, before they threw it at a vehicle, prompting a fire, which then spread to at least two other vehicles.

Massachusetts: Explosive Materials Discovered During Police Investigation, 1 Arrested

On 21 January 2025, at approximately 1530 hours local time, Westminster Police Department, North Worcester County Drug Task Force, and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit executed a search warrant at a home on the 100 block of East Road in Westminster as part of an investigation into alleged drug activity. At the home, authorities discovered “an unsafe amount of explosive materials,” in addition to cash and various drugs.

Massachusetts: Hoax Device Discovered During Drug Investigation, 3 Arrested

On 18 January 2025, at approximately 1830 hours local time, Longmeadow Police Department officers, Massachusetts State Police troopers, and members of the DEA conducted a search of a residence on the 80th block of South Avenue in Longmeadow as part of an investigation for alleged drug activity. Officers removed three occupants from the home after learning they were in possession of a device. During the search, officers discovered an item that resembled an incendiary device.

Vermont: Explosive Devices Functioned in Multiple Residential Mailboxes

On 11 January 2025, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) received multiple reports about the destruction of mailboxes in the towns of Wolcott, Johnson, and Morrisville. An ongoing joint investigation by LCSD, U.S. Postal Service Inspectors, and the Morristown Police Department determined that the mailboxes were damaged using unspecified explosive devices. No further information was provided.

Connecticut: IEDs Functioned in Secluded Area, 1 Injured

On 1 December 2024, at approximately 1225 hours local time, the Fairfield Police Department was notified by a local hospital that a patient was being treated for an injury after allegedly building and detonating IEDs in the Pine Creek Marsh in Fairfield. According to authorities, two male suspects made four IEDs; two IEDs were functioned while one IED functioned prematurely, injuring one suspect. The Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad was called to assist and removed the IED that remained at the marsh.

Massachusetts: TNT, Plastic Explosives Discovered Buried in Forest

On 19 September 2024, at approximately 1430 hours local time, Rowley Police Department (RPD) officers and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to a state-owned forest in Rowley near the border of Newbury after a man using a metal detector discovered a box containing trinitrotoluene (TNT) and unspecified plastic explosives buried in the ground. The FBI and ATF were called to the scene, and bomb squad technicians disposed of the explosives.

Vermont: Mailbox Destroyed by Explosive Device

On 12 September 2024, at approximately 0830 hours local time, Vermont State Police (VSP) received a report of vandalism at a residence on Georgia Shore Road in the town of Georgia. Neighbors told VSP troopers that they heard an explosion on 10 September at approximately 2030 hours. According to VSP, an unspecified explosive device functioned and destroyed a mailbox. No further device details were provided. The investigation is ongoing.

Connecticut: Large Cache of Pyrotechnics Found in Basement, 1 Arrested

On 6 September 2024, a 47-year-old man was arrested following a months-long investigation into a large cache of pyrotechnics found in his Berlin home. In February 2024, Berlin Police Department officers discovered pyrotechnics in the basement of the man’s home while responding to a medical incident. Connecticut State Police determined that the pyrotechnics were illegal in Connecticut and that the suspect had transported the pyrotechnics from Pennsylvania.

Maine: Cannonball Rendered Safe

On 26 August 2024, a Yarmouth resident turned in ammunition and ordnance, described as a live cannonball, to the Yarmouth Police Department. Portland Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit and the Maine State Police Bomb Squad were called to assist, and bomb squad technicians rendered the cannonball safe.

Massachusetts: Pyrotechnic Device Ignites Porta-potty Fire

On 18 August 2024, at approximately 2045 hours local time, a pyrotechnic device was thrown into a porta-potty at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Dracut, starting a fire inside. The blaze severely damaged the mobile bathroom. Dracut Fire Department crews responded and extinguished the blaze. The incident was captured on surveillance video, and the Dracut Police Department and the Fire Department are working to identify the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
