    TRIPwire, 8 February 2023 On 4 February 2023, Ford County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a home near Gibson City in connection to an aggravated assault investigation and discovered several explosive devices, improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), a firearm, and ammunition. No further device details have been released. University of Illinois Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and conducted a controlled detonation on site. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Gibson City Police Department, and Paxton Police Department were also called to assist. A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of explosive/incendiary devices, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification card, aggravated use of a deadly weapon, and resisting a peace officer.

    TRIPwire, 7 February 2023 On 3 February 2023, at approximately 1715 hours local time, Faribault Police Department (FPD) officers responding to a family disturbance call involving an 18-year-old suspect at a residence discovered suspicious items. Officers obtained a search warrant and requested assistance from the FBI, the St. Paul Police Department Bomb Squad, Rochester Fire Department Regional Chemical Assessment Team, the Minnesota Fire Marshal’s Office, Minneapolis Fire Department, and the Minnesota Department of Health. According to court documents, authorities found and seized M-type explosive devices and an explosives box, along with bomb-making material (BMM), described as a timing cord, a cinder block with a pipe attached, screws and sharp objects, containers of chemicals and liquids, unidentified powders, electrical wires, circuit boards, and cylindrical metallic devices. Court documents also revealed that the suspect had previously made pipe bombs in Faribault and Northfield which were rendered safe by bomb squads and had previously attempted to make chlorine gas. The suspect has not been charged but remains detained on a mental health hold for further evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.

    TRIPwire, 7 February 2023 On 5 February 2023, Astoria Police Department (APD) officers responded to a warming center located in a church on Franklin Avenue and recovered an IED, described as a shotgun shell in a plastic container wrapped in tape with a sharp pointed end that utilized a spring as a detonator, which was reportedly thrown at a center employee following a previous altercation. On 3 February, at approximately 2115 hours, APD officers responded to the center after a 58-year-old male suspect threw the IED at an employee and stabbed another employee, before being arrested. APD officers later learned that a staff member with military experience had rendered the IED safe before placing it in a drawer. The suspect was charged with attempted assault in the first degree, attempted murder in the second degree, and unlawful possession of a destructive device.
