California: Pipe Bomb Emplaced in Mailbox

On 3 August 2024, at approximately 1130 hours local time, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Burke Hill Road in Ukiah after a resident found a pipe bomb in their mailbox. The Sonoma County Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team responded to assist. Bomb technicians examined the device, described as a galvanized metal pipe filled with smokeless powder with two plastic end caps and a fuse attached, before removing it from the scene and rendering it safe.
