Illinois: IID Thrown into Home, 1 Injured

On 5 November 2024, at approximately 2330 hours local time, Centralia Fire Department crews responded to a residence on the 600 block of South Locust Street in Centralia after an IID was thrown into the house. The IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, was thrown through a bedroom window and injured a 13-year-old boy sleeping inside the room. Another occupant of the home extinguished the fire, and the juvenile was transported to the hospital for burn injuries.

Illinois: Pipe Bomb and BMM Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 31 October 2024, at approximately 0530 hours local time, the Channahon Police Department and Illinois State Police Tactical Response Team (TRT) SWAT executed a search warrant at a residence on the 22000 block of Deal Avenue in Channahon, where an IED and bomb-making material (BMM) were found inside. The Illinois State Police WMD team, a Will County K9 Unit, and the DuPage County Bomb Squad were called to assist. Bomb technicians examined the IED, described as a pipe bomb with secured endcaps and a wick, and determined it was safe in its current state.

California: Semitruck Damaged by Commercial Pyrotechnic Device

On 1 November 2024, media reporting indicated that on 26 October, the Salinas Police Department responded to a truck lot in Salinas following an explosion believed to be caused by a commercial-grade pyrotechnic device that struck a parked semitruck. Surveillance footage showed an unknown large projectile strike a semitruck from above before functioning, leaving a large hole in the vehicle and blowing out the window of an adjacent truck. No injuries were reported. No further device details were released. An investigation is ongoing.

California: Man Barricades Himself in Home with IID, 2 Injured and 1 Arrested

On 30 October 2024, San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department and Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a residence in Crestline after a 45-year-old man barricaded himself on the third story of the residence with an improvised incendiary device (IID) after allegedly assaulting his brother with dumbbells and a two-by-four. When authorities arrived at the scene, the suspect threatened to harm anyone who tried to come up the stairs and then reportedly ignited the IID and poured flammable liquid on the floor.

Japan: IIDs and Pyrotechnics Thrown at Political Party Headquarters, 1 Arrested

On 19 October 2024, at approximately 0600 hours local time, Tokyo Metropolitan Police (TMP) responded to reports of a man throwing multiple IIDs at the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) headquarters in Tokyo's Nagatacho district. The suspect allegedly sprayed an unknown liquid through a hose before throwing multiple IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at the LDP building. Afterward, the suspect rammed his vehicle into a protective barrier in front of the Japanese prime minister’s office.

On 21 October 2024, Gardaí officers and Limerick Fire and Rescue Service crews responded after a suspected improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a petrol bomb, was used to target a home in Limerick. One injury was reported. The unknown suspects escaped from Gardaí following the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. This is the third reported arson attack in the Limerick area within the last week.

On 16 October 2024, at approximately 0250 hours local time, Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies responded to the 16000 block of Highway 14 in Mojave for a report of a discharged firearm. At the scene, deputies learned that a 57-year-old male suspect had allegedly discharged a shotgun and was a suspect in another unrelated shooting, leading them to obtain a search warrant for his home.

Utah: IED Discovered Outside School

On 19 October 2024, at approximately 1550 hours local time, the Kaysville Police Department (KPD) responded to Endeavour Elementary School in Kaysville after receiving reports of a suspicious device on the southeast side of the campus. Deputies investigated the suspicious device, described as a “homemade firework or pipe bomb device,” and called the Davis County Bomb Squad for assistance. Bomb squad technicians responded, disposed of the IED via controlled detonation, and collected the remnants of the device for further examination. No further device details have been released.

Texas: Explosive Devices Discovered in Impounded Vehicle

On 16 October 2024, several unspecified explosive devices, firearms, cans of ammunition, and body armor were found inside a box truck that was impounded at the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office’s (GCSO) impound lot in Fredericksburg. The San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad, ATF, and FBI were called to assist. Several of the unspecified explosive devices were deemed too hazardous to transport and were disposed of via controlled detonations, while others were rendered safe without incident. The truck had been impounded after GCSO deputies arrested the driver along U.S.
