Missouri: IED Placed on Police Officer’s Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 5 January 2024, a man approached a Raytown Police Department officer sitting in a car and talked with the officer before placing an IED on the car’s bumper. The IED was described as a cylinder-like object wrapped in plastic with a red fuse. The suspect acknowledged the object was an explosive and backed away from the car. Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb Squad Unit responded to the scene, determined the device was viable, and rendered it safe. The suspect was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of an explosive weapon and first-degree assault.
