On 16 May 2023, at approximately 1730 hours local time, local police responded after explosives functioned by a public bench near a children’s playground in the town of Orio, killing a man and a woman. No further details about the explosives have been released. A bomb squad and Basque police force responded to assist. According to media reporting, a preliminary investigation indicates that the explosives were concealed in a package held by one of the victims. No other injuries or damage was reported. No further details about the BMM have been released. The Little Rock Fire Department Bomb Squad responded to assist and rendered the BMM safe. LRPD officers arrested the vehicle occupants on an unrelated offense. The incident remains under investigation.
