New York: IID Thrown at Residence

On 29 March 2023, New York City Police Department officers responded to a residence in Queens after an unidentified suspect was caught on surveillance video throwing an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, at the front door of the residence before fleeing. The IID functioned and caused a small fire. No further device details have been released and no injuries have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Ecuador: Explosives Strapped onto Body of Security Guard

On 30 March 2023, local police and an anti-explosives unit responded to the Sauces 9 neighborhood of Guayaquil after unidentified suspects taped explosives onto the abdomen and leg of a jewelry store security guard. The anti-explosives unit removed the explosives, and the security guard was escorted out of the area. No further details on the explosives have been released and no injuries were reported. No further device details have been released. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) took responsibility for the attack, claiming it was a coordinated gun and explosive assault. Montana: Pipe Bomb Discovered Near Bridge

On 28 March 2023, at approximately 1302 hours local time, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies responded to an area near Old Steel Bridge in Kalispell after receiving calls of a possible pipe bomb. The Missoula County Explosive Team responded to assist and conducted render safe procedures on site after a police K-9 detected the presence of explosive compounds. Fragments were collected for further investigation, but no further device details were provided. The ATF is assisting FCSO deputies in the ongoing investigation.

On 25 March 2023, at approximately 2005 hours local time, Concord Police Department officers and Concord Fire Department crews responded to reports of a suspicious device at the State House in the Capital Plaza area. The New Hampshire State Police Explosive Unit responded to assist and determined the device was “a smoke-style device designed to generate smoke rather than an explosion.” No further device details were provided. The investigation is ongoing.
