On 20 April 2019, a 25-year-old man initiated an IED described as a pipe bomb that landed in his neighbor’s yard. The man told Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he used stump remover mixed with sugar to make smoke bombs and shared a video of the outcome on social media. No one was injured in the incident, but the deputies evacuated the neighborhood as a precaution.

On 21 April 2019, beginning at approximately 0845 hours local time, a series of eight coordinated attacks targeting Easter Sunday church services and hotels killed 290 people and injured another 500 victims across the island nation. According to an official at the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, at least four U.S. citizens were among the reported 39 foreign casualties. Authorities confirmed seven Sri Lankan suicide bombers conducted seven person-borne IED (PBIED) attacks.

On 18 April 2019 at approximately 1330 hours local time, local fire and police departments responded to a man delivering suspected explosive material to a recycling center in Potsdam. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to render safe the material. No injuries were reported, and the suspect was arrested. There is no further information on the contents of the explosive material but the investigation is ongoing.
