New Jersey: Pipe Bomb and Associated Components Found in Drug Raid

On 6 April 2019, police executing a search warrant at a Berlin Borough home discovered a pipe bomb with associated components in addition to nine firearms, crystal methamphetamine, and heroin. The prosecutor’s Suburban Narcotics Task Force, Berlin Borough police, and the Lower Camden County Regional Special Response Team executed the raid as part of an investigation into suspected drug sales. The Camden County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and removed the device and explosive materials.

Nigeria: PBIED Attack Kills Five, Injures Others

On 6 April 2019, two female suicide bombers detonated person-borne IEDs (PBIEDs) in a crowd in the Muna-Dalti area of Maiduguri. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the attack to news outlets and reported that three people were killed in addition to the two suicide bombers, while at least 45 others were injured. At the time of reporting, no organizations have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Indiana: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Roadside

On 6 April 2019, Mason County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the discovery of a pipe bomb concealed inside an unspecified package along a roadside in Elwood. No additional details were available regarding device construction. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal technicians responded and rendered safe the device. No suspects were identified, and the investigation is ongoing into the origin of the device.

Missouri: Pipe Bomb Brought to County Jail

On 6 April 2019, the road in front of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department offices in Farmington was briefly closed after a local resident discovered what was described as a pipe bomb and brought it in for disposal. Missouri State Highway Patrol bomb disposal technicians responded, but no outcome was reported. No information was available regarding the construction of the device or where it had originally been found.
