California: Bomb-Making Materials Discovered in Residence

On 26 June 2019 at approximately 1010 hours local time, the Desert Hot Springs Police Department arrested two 20-year-old residents after evidence of explosives and firearms manufacturing was discovered in their home. Detectives also recovered a device constructed from a seltzer bottle with a wick duct-taped to the lid. The suspects face numerous weapons-related charges, including the possession of material to make explosive devices.

Philippines: Two PBIEDs Detonated at Military Camp, Casualties Sustained

On 28 June 2019, two person-borne IEDs (PBIEDs) detonated near Indanan in southern Sulu province. The first PBIED detonated at a checkpoint and the second inside a military camp past the checkpoint. Three soldiers and two civilians died, and nine soldiers were injured. The attack occurred as new soldiers were arriving to help bolster the military’s counterterrorism efforts in the Sulu province. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.

On 26 June 2019, the Indian military rendered safe two IEDs after a 28-year-old male suspect, arrested the day before, confessed to emplacing the IEDs in a drain along a road in the Ramanagaram area. The suspect is accused of participating in previous explosive attacks and being a member of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh terrorist organization.

Oregon: Suspected IID Used in Arson Incident

On 26 June 2019 at approximately 0000 hours local time, a 41-year-old male allegedly intentionally set two fires in Gresham, one of which involving an improvised incendiary device (IID). Witnesses reported that the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail-type device at his neighbor’s garage door. Gresham Police Department officers arrested the suspect, who also allegedly set his own basement on fire, shortly after the incidents. No injuries were reported.

Egypt: Three Police Checkpoints Targeted in PBIED Attacks, Casualties Sustained

On 26 June 2019, militants attacked three police checkpoints in Northern Sinai near the regional capital of el-Arish and detonated a person-borne IED (PBIED) at one of the checkpoints. During the fighting, seven officers and four militants died and at least eight officers sustained injuries. The militants used at least 10 vehicles during the coordinated attacks. ISIS claimed responsibility through its Amaq website.
