Nepal: IED Detonates Near Local Government Building, Injuring One

On 18 April 2019, an IED found near the Provincial Assembly building in Pokhara detonated while an Army corporal attempted to render safe the device, injuring the corporal. No other injuries were reported. According to Kaski Police, two more IEDs were discovered around the city. Authorities believe these discoveries are related to the Communist Party of Nepal’s protest against the nationwide crackdown targeting the group. The investigation is ongoing.

Ireland: IID Thrown at Residence

On 18 April 2019 at approximately 0100 hours local time, an improvised incendiary device (IID) was thrown at a residence in Ballyspillane, damaging windows and a door but not causing any injuries. The device was described as a gas bomb. Gardai responded and believe the incident is part of an ongoing feud between Irish Traveller communities in County Kerry.

Massachusetts: Mailbox Explodes in Residential Neighborhood

On 17 April 2019 at approximately 0700 hours local time, Methuen Police Department (MPD) officers responded to reports of an explosive functioning in a residential mailbox, damaging multiple mailboxes and a nearby vehicle but causing no injuries. According to MPD, a pyrotechnic device caused the explosion. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

France: 270 IIDs Found in Building Lobby

On 17 April 2019, French media sources reported that between 5 to 6 April, the Municipal Police of Bastia (MPB) received a tip regarding suspicious behavior that led to the discovery of 270 IIDs in a building lobby. MPB received the tip after residents of the building heard suspicious noises coming from the staircase. While on scene, MPB also discovered petanque balls filled with explosive material and stones. No injuries were reported and the devices were removed. The investigation is ongoing.
