California: Pyrotechnic Functions Prematurely, Man Loses Fingers

On 8 June 2022, at approximately 1840 hours local time, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and local paramedics responded to a residence in Moreno Valley after an illegal mortar-type pyrotechnic functioned in the hand of a 36-year-old male suspect, blowing off two of his fingers and causing severe burns. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
