New York: Explosive Device Discovered in Residential Neighborhood

On 29 April 2024, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Yonkers Police Department (YPD) officers responded to a location in the 1060 block of Nepperhan Avenue for a reported discovery of an explosive device. YPD officers confirmed the presence of the device, and the YPD’s Emergency Services Unit requested the assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety’s Hazardous Devices Unit. No further details have been released.

New Jersey: BMM Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 19 April 2024, following a collaborative investigation between Township Police, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and federal officials, authorities responded to a residence in Maplewood for reports of a juvenile possessing bomb-making material (BMM). Authorities confirmed that the home contained BMM and arrested the juvenile onsite. The juvenile was charged with possession of explosive materials. No further information was released.

New York: IEDs Functioned on Porch

On 17 April 2024, at approximately 0130 hours local time, Gloversville Police Department officers responded to a residence on Helwig Street for reports of two explosions. Police found evidence that IEDs had functioned at the scene, causing two separate explosions. The explosions damaged the front window and porch of the house but did not injure the house’s occupants, who were sleeping when the blasts occurred. The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Johnstown Police Department, ATF, and FBI are assisting with the investigation.

New York: Pyrotechnic Thrown into Vehicle

On 11 April 2024, at approximately 1330 hours local time, Syracuse police responded to the 200 block of Englewood Avenue after an explosion was reported. Officers determined that pyrotechnics were thrown into a vehicle and functioned. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

New York: 2 IEDs Discovered in 3D Printing Business, 1 Arrested

On the afternoon of 28 March 2024, Rochester Police Department officers and FBI agents conducted a raid on an apartment building on the 200 block of Andrews Street in Rochester. The building was evacuated, and law enforcement discovered two IEDs in an apartment that was home to a 3D printing business. Police arrested a 24-year-old man who leased the unit. No further device details were released. The suspect was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree.

New York Large Quantity of Pyrotechnics Functioned Due to Fire, 1 Arrested

On 19 March 2024, authorities including the Franklin Square Fire Department, Arson Bomb Squad, Nassau County Fire Marshal, and the Town of Hempstead Building Department responded to a home on Morton Avenue in Franklin Square for a report of a fire. The blaze started in a garage at the home and had begun spreading to adjacent properties when first responders heard a series of explosions that resulted in the fire spreading inside the home and at an additional nearby property.

New York: Incendiary Devices, BMM Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 16 February 2024, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Rockland County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) deputies discovered what they believed to be an IED while searching a Chester apartment on the 300 block of Pine Hollow Way. RCSO Bomb Squad technicians responded to the scene and recovered three improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), as well as bomb-making material (BMM). Law enforcement officers also discovered a firearm, four magazines, a ballistic vest, and drugs at the residence.

New York: 2 Suspects Arrested After IEDs Found in Apartment

On 17 January 2024, New York City Police Department officers found 8 IEDs, 6 ghost guns, 600 rounds of ammunition, pyrotechnics, bomb-making instructions, and 3D printers while searching an apartment in Queens. One device was described as a “partially constructed IED rigged with a tripwire,” and a photo released of four IEDs depicts them as soda can-size cylindrical devices covered in tape with green fuses. Two brothers were taken into custody on 29 January and indicted on 130 counts of criminal possession of a weapon and related charges.

New York: IED Emplaced at Home, Pyrotechnics and Explosives Manual Found at Suspect’s Residence

On 11 January 2024, at approximately 0709 hours local time, an explosion occurred at a home on McLain Street in Bedford. Bedford Police Department officers responded and discovered the remnants of an IED, described as a cardboard box containing a gas can with firework tubing, labeled with the Closter, New Jersey, address of a man suspected of emplacing the device. No injuries or damages were reported. The FBI searched the home of the suspect, who had been in a feud with the victim.
