On 17 January 2025, at approximately 0600 hours local time, Pottsville Bureau of Police officers and Pottsville fire crews responded to the 600 block of North 2nd Street in Pottsville following reports of a fire at a residence that spread to another residence on the block. Multiple people were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Virginia: Over 150 IEDs, HME, and BMM Seized at Property, 1 Arrested

On 17 December 2024, multiple law enforcement agencies, bomb technicians, and federal investigators, including the FBI, searched a 20-acre farm on Foursquare Road in Isle of Wight County and seized more than 150 pipe bombs and other IEDs, homemade explosives (HME), and BMM. The majority of the finished IEDs, as well as several training aids, were discovered in a detached garage, and some of which had been inserted into a wearable vest.

Virginia: Egyptian National Arrested for Planning Attack on Israeli Consulate

On 17 December 2024, an 18-year-old Egyptian national was arrested by the FBI Washington Field Office's Joint Terrorism Task Force in Falls Church for allegedly plotting a mass casualty attack on the Israeli General Consulate in New York City. The suspect reportedly ran several social media accounts that advocated for ISIS, al-Qaeda, and Hamas. According to the affidavit, the suspect shared bomb-making instructions with an undercover FBI confidential human source (CHS) and encouraged them to carry out an attack against the Israeli Consulate.

Pennsylvania: Explosive Device Discovered in Residence After Standoff, 1 Arrested

On 20 December 2024, at approximately 2000 hours local time, the Sandy Township Police Department, DuBois City Police Department, State College Borough Police Department Bomb Squad, Penn State University Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and FBI responded to a residence on Eastern Avenue near DuBois after a 29-year-old male resident claimed there were unspecified explosives in the home and barricaded himself inside. Authorities found and disposed of an explosive device and unspecified materials via a controlled detonation at the scene. The suspect was arrested.

Pennsylvania: IED Functioned During Dispute at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 16 December 2024, Sandy Township Police Department officers responded to a residence on Eastern Avenue in DuBois after reports of a dispute between a 29-year-old male suspect and another man, who told responding officers that the suspect was setting off explosives and building bombs. Behind the home, officers found remnants of a 55-gallon barrel that had been used as part of an IED. The suspect reportedly described making and initiating the device by filling the barrel with propane and igniting it using a spark from an electric fly swatter.

Maryland: Explosive Device Functioned Outside Business, BMM Found in Suspect’s Home

On 11 December 2024, at approximately 1430 hours local time, Anne Arundel County Fire Department crews, Anne Arundel County Police Department officers, and ATF agents responded to a business on the 700 block of East Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie for a report of an explosion outside the business. At the scene, investigators discovered scorch marks on the building, which they determined were consistent with the functioning of an explosive device. Surveillance camera footage showed a suspect drive up to the business and emplace an explosive device against the building before it functioned.

Maryland: IED Found Inside Home, 1 Arrested

On 13 November 2024, at approximately 0100 hours local time, Maryland State Police (MSP) responded to a residence on the 20300 block of Lower Georges Creek Road in Westernport after a suspect broke into a home. Troopers arrested the suspect and found an IED in the home following a search. MSP notified the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad, who responded, ran diagnostics on the device, and conducted render-safe procedures. No additional device details have been released.

Virginia: Man Arrested on Explosive Charges after Investigation into Noise Complaints

On 30 August 2024, the Arlington County Fire Department Office of the Fire Marshal, ATF agents, Arlington County Police Department officers, and bomb squad technicians arrested a 77-year-old male suspect after serving a search warrant at the suspect’s home on the 5700 block of Washington Boulevard in Arlington. The search was conducted in response to an investigation beginning on 20 August 2024 concerning periodic explosions reported nightly and in the early morning. No further details were provided on the materials discovered in the home.

Pennsylvania: Pyrotechnics Found During Bethlehem Parade

On 3 August 2024, at approximately 2130 hours local time, Bethlehem Police Department officers responded to a music festival on First Street in Bethlehem after a pyrotechnic was discovered. Officers removed the pyrotechnic, described as a commercial grade firework.

Pennsylvania: Suspect Assaults Man and Emplaces IED Under Car, 1 Arrested

On the evening of 2 June 2024, a 31-year-old male suspect threw a pyrotechnic device outside of his ex-girlfriend’s home in Ross Township after a gathering, causing a bush to ignite. The suspect departed the scene and later returned to assault another man who attended the gathering, throwing a whiskey bottle and beating him with brass knuckles. The suspect reportedly attacked the man because of his interactions with the suspect’s ex-girlfriend. Ross Township Police responded the following morning and discovered an IED under the victim’s car in the driveway.
