California: IIDs Thrown at RV, 1 Arrested

On 28 April 2023, at approximately 0245 hours local time, Clovis Police Department and fire crews responded after a suspect lit multiple improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as Molotov cocktails, to set a recreational vehicle (RV) on fire that was parked on the side yard of a Clovis residence. The fire spread to two homes and caused an unknown amount of damage. No further device details were released, and no injuries were reported. The 47-year-old male suspect was arrested on 3 May 2023 and is facing multiple charges related to the incident.

California: Explosive Device Functioned on Sidewalk

On 20 April 2023, at approximately 1930 hours local time, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers responded to a neighborhood in Sherman Oaks following a report of an explosive device that functioned on a sidewalk causing cement debris and damaging a few vehicles. Surveillance footage captured a male suspect placing the device in a cinder block and fleeing the scene in a vehicle. LAPD’s Bomb Squad responded to investigate. No further device details have been released and no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

California: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Diver

On 31 March 2023, at approximately 1433 hours local time, Pacific Grove Police Department officers responded to Lovers Point Beach after a diver found a possible pipe bomb. No further device details have been released. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office Bomb Unit responded to assist and rendered the device safe via controlled detonation. No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.

Nevada: Commercial Explosives Found in Residence

On 23 March 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to a Reno residence on North Wells Avenue after the homeowner discovered commercial explosives, described as 100 sticks of old dynamite, in his basement. No further device details have been released. Bomb Squad technicians removed the dynamite for offsite disposal.
