California: BMM Discovered in Residence, 1 Arrested

On 1 March 2023, San Jose Police Department (SJPD) officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Potomac Court and discovered a large quantity of bomb-making material (BMM), described as explosive material, and narcotics. No further details on the BMM were provided. The FBI, National Guard, and Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad were called to the scene to assist in the safe removal of the BMM. A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of explosive material. The investigation is ongoing.

California: Explosive Device Functioned Near Residence, 1 Arrested

On 14 February 2023, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 51-year-old male suspect in Arizona in connection to a 28 January 2023 incident where the suspect reportedly functioned an explosive device near the Thousand Oaks, California residence of his ex-girlfriend before returning to Arizona. No further device details were released, and no injuries were reported.
The suspect was charged with stalking and using an explosive device.

Arizona: Commercial Explosives Discovered Inside Barn

On 12 February 2023, at approximately 1136 hours local time, Chino Valley Police Department officers responded after commercial explosives, described as five sticks of old dynamite, were discovered while cleaning out a barn at a residence on East Liana Drive. No further device details have been released. Flagstaff Police Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and removed the dynamite which was rendered safe offsite.
