Indiana: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Roadside

On 6 April 2019, Mason County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the discovery of a pipe bomb concealed inside an unspecified package along a roadside in Elwood. No additional details were available regarding device construction. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal technicians responded and rendered safe the device. No suspects were identified, and the investigation is ongoing into the origin of the device.

On the night of 19 March 2019, an unknown number of suspects detonated a commercial-grade pyrotechnic in a residential mailbox in Butler Township. No injuries were reported. Butler Township Police Department and Federal authorities are seeking the perpetrators and investigating the incident.

Ohio: Two Injured after Igniting an IED

On 20 March 2019 at approximately 1945 hours local time, two juvenile boys were injured after igniting an IED described as a modified pyrotechnic device in an alley near college off-campus housing. Oxford Police Department officers responded. Both juveniles were taken to the hospital to treat their wounds. Butler County Bomb Squad technicians recovered post-blast evidence for further lab analysis. There is no further information on the device and an investigation is ongoing.

Ohio: IED Discovered During Investigation of Suspicious Vehicle

On 18 March 2019, a Lucas County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle report in Swanton and discovered an IED inside the vehicle. The Toledo Police Department NW Ohio Bomb Squad removed the device, which was described as an illegal pyrotechnic device consisting of a large firework with a protruding fuse. Two individuals associated with the vehicle were taken into custody.
