On 19 January 2023, Mansfield Fire Department crews and Ashland County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to a construction company on East Longview Avenue after an employee discovered commercial explosives, labeled as “cartridged water gel explosive,” while cleaning out a storage locker. Bomb squad technicians removed about 10 sticks of the explosives to be rendered safe with the assistance of the Ashland Fire Department.

Illinois: IID Thrown at Nonprofit Clinic

On 15 January 2023, at approximately 2332 hours local time, Peoria Police Department officers and Peoria Fire Department (PFD) crews responded to a nonprofit clinic on North Knoxville Avenue after an unidentified suspect threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, through the clinic’s window, causing a fire in the building. No further device details were provided. A PFD firefighter suffered minor injuries and the building sustained significant damages. The investigation is ongoing.

Indiana: Explosive Device Discovered Inside Business

On 6 January 2023, at approximately 1336 hours local time, Elkhart County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an automotive business on Highway 33/Elkhart Road after a small explosive device was discovered in the shop. No further device details have been released. The Elkhart Police Department Bomb Squad responded to assist and disposed of the device. The incident remains under investigation.

Minnesota: Incendiary Device, Explosives Discovered in Residence

On 31 December 2022, at approximately 1420 hours local time, East Range Police Department officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Aurora and discovered explosives and a device described as a “homemade incendiary device.” No further details on the device or explosives have been released. The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to assist and safely removed the explosives and the device. A suspect was arrested and charged with possessing an incendiary device, possessing stolen property, and burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
