On 30 March 2023, at approximately 0500 hours local time, Toledo Police Department officers responded to a residence on Knower Street after an unknown suspect shot at, then threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, into the home. The residents were in bed when the shots passed through the home's walls and the IID was thrown inside. No further device details were provided, and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Ohio: BMM Brought to Waste Facility

On 9 March 2023, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Toledo Police Department officers responded to a waste management facility after an unknown person dropped off bomb-making material (BMM), described as "two metal cans" labeled "picric acid," at the facility. The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist, removed the material from the scene, and rendered it safe via a controlled detonation in an empty field. The investigation is ongoing.

On 9 March 2023, at approximately 0430 hours local time, Toledo Police Department officers responded to Freeman Street after unknown suspects threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, in between two residences starting a fire, and shot at residents when they went outside their homes to put out the fire. No further device details have been released, and no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

Michigan: Exploding Target Material Functioned at Creek

On 16 February 2023, media reporting indicated that Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) conservation officers responded to a beaver dam along Crooked Creek after a suspect detonated a large block of exploding target material removing the dam, which prompted flooding to nearby residents. A property owner admitted to MDNR conservation officers that they detonated the exploding target material and officers were able to locate .308 rifle casings at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Ohio: BMM Discovered in Parking Lot

On 14 February 2023, at approximately 1500 hours local time, Fairview Park Police Department officers responded to the parking lot of a Fairview Park shopping mall after a construction contractor reported that he discovered bomb-making material (BMM) in a construction container that “combined could create an explosion.” Westshore Enforcement Bureau’s Hazardous Materials Disposal Unit responded to assist and removed the BMM. No further details on the BMM were provided. The investigation is ongoing.
