Texas: Pipe Bomb Discovered Near Bridge

On 19 January 2025, at approximately 1400 hours local time, Wichita County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded after a passerby reported seeing a suspicious device on the bank of the Wichita River at the bridge over FM Road 369 in Wichita Falls. Deputies used a UAS to examine the device and called the Fort Sill bomb squad, Wichita West volunteer firefighters, and a Wichita Falls police officer associated with the ATF for assistance. The bomb squad used an X-ray to examine the device and determined that it was a live IED, described as a pipe bomb.

Louisiana: RCIEDs and Explosive Material Found Following Vehicle Ramming, 14 Killed and Over 30 Injured

On 1 January 2025, at approximately 0315 hours local time, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to reports of a vehicle ramming into a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street, which killed 14 people and injured over 30 others. The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man from Texas, was killed after exchanging gunfire with officers. ATF, FBI, and DHS personnel were called to the scene to assist.

Texas: BMM Found Home and Storage Unit of New Orleans Vehicle-Ramming Attacker

On 7 January 2025, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies and agents from the FBI’s Houston field office discovered BMM while searching a storage unit on the 11900 block of Walters Road in Houston that was connected to the suspect in the New Orleans vehicle-ramming attack. The BMM, described as “bottles of sulfuric acid,” were reportedly purchased at a nearby hardware store and were discovered inside a cooler within the storage unit.

Texas: Suspect Threatened Police with IED

On 13 January 2025, at approximately 0820 hours local time, the Teague Police Department responded to a residence in Teague after a suspect reportedly threatened that they were "going to blow up the police when they come back." Officers observed an IED on the property and called the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit, ATF, and other nearby law enforcement authorities to assist. Officials executed a search warrant at the residence and the special operations unit rendered the device safe without incident.

Texas: Explosives Seized After Police Standoff, 1 Arrested

On 11 December 2024, at approximately 2300 hours local time, Houston Police Department’s (HPD) Northeast Crime Suppression Team attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near Tidwell Drive and Jensen Drive in Houston. The driver refused to leave the car and claimed that he had multiple firearms and explosives in the vehicle. HPD’s SWAT Team arrived at the scene to assist and convinced the suspect to throw the weapons out of the car. Investigators recovered several firearms and a small quantity of explosives from the scene. No injuries were reported during the standoff.

Texas: 3 IEDs and Guns Found in Vehicle of Suspect Allegedly Intending to Attack Church

On 26 November 2024, at approximately 0530 hours local time, White Settlement Police Department officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on the 9200 block of Jason Lane in White Settlement. The occupant of the vehicle was identified as an Oklahoma man with reported family in the area. While talking with the man, officers noticed a handgun on his lap. He was removed from the vehicle and transported to a nearby medical facility for a reported mental health episode.

Texas: Explosives Manuals Found on Laptop During ISIS Plot Investigation, 1 Arrested

On 14 November 2024, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Texas, published a press release announcing the 8 November 2024 arrest of a 28-year-old Houston man who attempted to provide material support to ISIS, reportedly wanted to commit a terrorist attack in the United States, and allegedly stored explosives manuals on his laptop. Law enforcement executed searches of the suspect’s residence, vehicle, and electronic devices, which uncovered instruction manuals on how to prepare C4 explosives, use a remote detonator, and construct various other IEDs.

Texas: 2 IEDs Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 25 October 2024, media reporting indicated that on 7 October 2024, Rusk County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) deputies, Tatum Police Department officers, and Constable Precinct 2 Office constables searched a property on Rusk County Road 2192 in Tatum and discovered two IEDs, described as designed to be hand thrown; firearms; and illegal drugs. The ATF was called to the scene to assist and secured the IEDs. No further details about the devices were released. A 65-year-old male suspect was arrested on 22 October and charged with possession of an IED and possession of a controlled substance.

Arkansas: IED Discovered During Traffic Stop, 1 Arrested

On 27 October 2024, at approximately 1040 hours local time, Arkansas State Police (ASP) troopers conducted a traffic stop and vehicle search on Interstate 40 eastbound in Conway and discovered an IED, described as a CO2 cartridge with a 1-foot-long fuse. Troopers also discovered illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and multiple social security and identification cards. The ASP Bomb Squad, Conway Fire Department bomb technicians, and ATF agents were called to the scene and confirmed the device was functional. The device was transported to a secondary location and rendered safe.

Texas: Explosive Devices Discovered in Impounded Vehicle

On 16 October 2024, several unspecified explosive devices, firearms, cans of ammunition, and body armor were found inside a box truck that was impounded at the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office’s (GCSO) impound lot in Fredericksburg. The San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad, ATF, and FBI were called to assist. Several of the unspecified explosive devices were deemed too hazardous to transport and were disposed of via controlled detonations, while others were rendered safe without incident. The truck had been impounded after GCSO deputies arrested the driver along U.S.
