Oklahoma: Homemade Explosive Lab Found After Reports of Explosion, 1 Injured

On 20 October 2024, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, Hartshorne Police Department, and Hartshorne Fire Department responded to a residence north of Hartshorne following a reported explosion. Upon arrival, officers discovered a “very large homemade explosives laboratory,” which included “large amounts of bulk powders and precursors.” Narcotics were also discovered at the scene. ATF agents and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad were called to the scene and assisted with the processing and disposal of the materials.

Texas: BMM Found After Man Threatens Family Members, 1 Arrested

On 6 October 2024, at approximately 1210 hours local time, Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a residence on the 20000 block of Godwin Road in Harlingen following reports of a 49-year-old man threating his family. The suspect was allegedly caught by a family member placing rifle ammunition into a metal socket and indicated that he would denotate the IED with his family members in the house. The suspect admitted to CCSO deputies that he was attempting to build an IED.

Oklahoma: Suspected Pipe Bomb Discovered During Traffic Stop, 2 Arrested

On 14 October 2024, at approximately 1223 hours local time, Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) officers conducted a traffic stop near Southwest 21st Street and South Pennsylvania Avenue in Oklahoma City and found a duffel bag in the vehicle that contained a suspected pipe bomb described as a PVC pipe wrapped in brown paper with a green fuse. The OCPD Bomb Squad was called to assist. No additional details have been released. The driver and passenger were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

New Mexico: 3 IIDs Found in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 20 September 2024, a Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a call from a man who claimed he was pursued by eight cars on I-25 in Santa Fe. The deputy discovered three improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as Molotov cocktails, in the front passenger seat of the man’s vehicle. The man admitted to making the IIDs and was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of explosive devices.

Louisiana: IID Functioned Outside City Hall, 1 Arrested

On 28 August 2024, at approximately 1300 hours local time, a man unsuccessfully attempted to access the mayor’s office at Jeanerette City Hall in Jeanerette. The suspect then functioned a “delayed” improvised incendiary device (IID) outside of the building before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. The blaze from the IID caused minimal damage to the building, and no injuries were reported. The 41-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and manufacture and possession of delayed action incendiary devices.

Texas: BMM, Guns, and Drugs Found While Searching Home, 2 Arrested

On 8 August 2024, Tyler County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety personnel, and ATF agents discovered bomb-making material (BMM) and a drug lab while searching a home in Fred. Authorities found a threaded pipe and gunpowder, guns, 30 pounds of suspected marijuana, 147 grams of suspected psychedelic mushrooms, and several trash bags full of prescription pills, among other drugs. Two suspects, a 37-year-old man and woman, were arrested on drug charges.

New Mexico: BMM and Ammunition Found at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 10 August 2024, New Mexico State Police officers, ATF agents, and El Paso Police Department officers conducted a raid at a residence on the 300 block of Prescott Anthony Drive in Chaparral. Authorities discovered unspecified bomb-making material (BMM), multiple firearms, and approximately 100,000 rounds of ammunition. The 72-year-old male resident was arrested and is facing federal charges related to the possession of a destructive device, among other charges.

Texas: IED Discovered in Vacant Residence

On 1 August 2024, at approximately 1000 hours local time, Donna Police Department (DPD) officers, Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies, and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel responded to a trailer park on the 4200 block of North Farm-to-Market Road 493 for a report of a suspicious device discovered by the landlord. The landlord had been cleaning the mobile home after a tenant was evicted and found two packages wrapped in duct tape and covered in gun shells with wires sticking out of them.

Texas: Man Arrested After Emplacing Pyrotechnics in Bathrooms, 3 Injured

On 20 July 2024, a man entered a unisex bathroom at a car wash on Bandera Road in Helotes and emplaced pyrotechnics beneath a toilet seat, which functioned when a woman sat on the seat. On 26 July, two additional victims reported similar scenarios at a car wash in San Antonio, near Highway 281. All three victims sustained minor injuries. The San Antonio Police Department responded, and officers discovered the remains of small commercial pyrotechnics designed to function when pressure is applied.

Texas: BMM Found in 2 Locations, Suspect Arrested

On 25 July 2024, Lake Worth Police Department (LWPD) officers found two bags containing potentially explosive devices in separate locations in Lake Worth after a suspicious man was initially reported inside a department store. LWPD officers found the first suspicious bag outside of an auction house on Azle Avenue, and a second bag was later found on Boat Club Road. The Fort Worth Fire Department responded to assist. Bomb squad technicians examined the contents of the backpacks, which were described as propane tanks, electrical wiring, and pressure cookers, before rendering them safe.
