Colombia: Roadside IED Discovered Near Vice President’s Residence

On 9 January 2023, the vice president’s security team discovered an IED, described as containing 7 kilograms [~15.4 lb] of explosives, made of ammonium nitrate, powdered aluminum, and fragmentation, emplaced by a rural road leading to the vice president’s home in the southwestern province of Cauca. Anti-explosives personnel responded to assist and rendered the device safe through a controlled detonation. The incident remains under investigation.
