On May 6, 2025, in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, a 32-year-old suspect was taken into custody for allegedly igniting an explosive device inside the St. Teresa of Calcutta Rectory chapel on the evening of May 6th.  The suspect faces charges of arson and related offenses.

Idaho: Explosive Device Discovered in Remote Area Destroyed by Spokane Bomb Squad

On May 6, 2025, a construction crew working in a remote area found a suspected explosive device north of Highway 128 and Wild Dove Lane. The Spokane bomb squad responded and confirmed it was explosive and safely destroyed the device.

New York: Man Charged After Homemade Explosive Device Detonates in Yates County

On May 1, 2025, an explosion was heard in Yates County, and a man faced charges stemming from the incident on Friday.  Penn Yan police said people heard the loud explosion on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. on East Elm Street. Neighbors reported that debris hit their houses. Officers responded and found pieces of what appeared to be a detonated homemade explosive device.  The suspect was found with two 12-gauge shotgun shells.

California: Suspect Arrested in Mendocino County After Homemade Bomb Explosion

On May 1, 2025, a homemade bomb exploded in Redwood Valley, starting a small fire and leading to the arrest of an Ukiah man accused of setting the device and possessing other devices. Investigators said the device had a fuse and was wrapped in packing tape. Small fragments were recovered at the scene, and officials noted it resembled another bomb found intact a day earlier in a roadside ditch off Highway 222. The suspect was pulled over and arrested on suspicion of possessing and igniting an explosive device and arson causing damage to land.

Utah: 28-Year-Old Suspect Arrested Following Tip to Police from Mother

On April 30, 2025, in Provo, Utah, police arrested a 28-year-old suspect after two suspected pipe bombs were discovered in his apartment. The suspect’s mother contacted the police after she found what appeared to be pipe bombs, materials used to make them, and a container marked gunpowder, at the suspect’s residence. The bomb squad responded to dispose of the two devices and confirmed the pipes contained an explosive powder. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree felony recklessness involving an incendiary device.

North Carolina: Tripwire IED Found by Officer During Foot Pursuit

On April 1, 2025, In Hoke County, North Carolina, a traffic stop escalated into a foot chase in a nearby wooded lot. During the foot pursuit, authorities discovered a possible improvised explosive device (IED) with a tripwire on a path through the wooded area. Bomb squads from multiple agencies responded and rendered the device safe. The device was then sent to a crime lab for analysis. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.

Idaho: Two Arrested for Possession of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) Following Investigation

On April 1, 2025, two individuals were arrested in connection with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found at a home in Boise, Idaho. The Boise Police Department conducted an investigation, which led to the discovery of the IEDs and the subsequent arrests. According to Boise Police, when one suspect was approached by officers, they "recklessly” handled one of the IEDs by shaking it and dropping it in close proximity to the officer.

During the raid, authorities discovered ammunition and explosives at the suspect's residence. Subsequently, on April 22, 2025, the suspect was indicted for possession of ammunition and explosives.
