On June 1, 2025, the Independence Police Department (IPD) responded to Pitcher Cemetery on reports of a grenade being found. The IPD Bomb Squad responded, found the grenade and determined that it was real, though it did not contain any explosives. The grenade was removed safely and without incident. It’s not clear where the grenade originated, or how long it was in the cemetery.
On June 1, 2025, according to the Newberry Township Police, two devices were found near donation bins in Newberry Commons. According to police, the devices, which resembled grenades, were found by a community member in a laundry basket along with explosives-related literature. The Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Unit was called to investigate. The devices were determined to be inert.
On May 30, 2025, Emmett Township Department of Public Safety officers, in collaboration with the Battle Creek Police Department Gang Suppression Unit, arrested a suspect with multiple outstanding felony warrants after a search warrant was conducted at the suspect’s Emmett Township residence, and police allegedly found firearms and two improvised explosive devices. The Battle Creek Police Department Bomb Squad responded and safely removed the devices.
On May 29, 2025, at approximately 9:10 p.m. local time in the 3600 block of West Kentucky Avenue, a suspect allegedly threw or launched a pyrotechnic device, reported as most likely a consumer firework, and shattered a driver’s side rear passenger window of a vehicle when it exploded, seriously injuring a juvenile who was inside the vehicle. The Denver Police Department reported that the suspect fled on foot and is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
On May 28, 2025, at approximately 1625 hours local time, an explosion occurred at a residence in Florissant, Missouri. One person later died from the injuries obtained in the explosion. The Florissant Police Department, Saint Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit, and other police and fire agencies responded.
On May 23, 2025, Broken Arrow Police allegedly discovered a homemade explosive device during a traffic stop just after midnight. While searching the vehicle, police found what appeared to be a PVC pipe sealed with end caps and a visible fuse. The Tulsa Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene, confirmed it was an improvised explosive device, and safely destroyed the device. On May 15, 2025, McLeansboro Police responded to an explosion at a residence on the 200 block of North Locust Street. According to police, the incident involved an individual who had detonated what he described as a "homemade firework.” The explosion reportedly created an 18-inch crater in the ditch in front of the individual’s home. While investigating, police found a large number of undetonated items. The Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and, operating under a search warrant, seized all other explosive material.
On May 12, 2025, a San Antonio woman was arrested and charged with Aiding in the Commission of Terrorism after her son was allegedly found to have been plotting an attack against a local middle school. The woman was taken into custody for buying ammunition and “aiding in terrorism” after her son allegedly showed up at Jeremiah Rhodes Middle School on May 12th, wearing a mask, camouflage jacket, and tactical pants. He has since been charged with terrorism.
On May 11, 2025, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a breaking and entering incident at a residence in Morganton, North Carolina. The victim reported multiple types of property stolen, including firearms. During the execution of the search warrant at the suspect’s residence, investigators located two firearms in the suspect’s possession, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, including glass smoking pipes, digital scales, and plastic baggies, and an IED. On May 6, 2025, a DeFuniak Springs man was arrested after Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies found two pipe bombs and drugs in his vehicle after pulling him over for having a cardboard license plate reading “Private.” Deputies discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and two cylinder-shaped objects, which the man admitted contained gunpowder. According to WCSO, one device was constructed of PVC pipe with caps on each end. The other device was a cylinder object heavily wrapped with electrical tape.
