On 4 December 2024, at approximately 2252 hours local time, San Luis Obispo Police Department officers responded to a house on the 1700 block of Corralitos Avenue in San Luis Obispo following a report of an individual allegedly making threats. At the scene, officers found a small fire burning in the street and observed a vehicle leaving the immediate area.
On 17 December 2024, at approximately 0611 hours local time, the Investigative Committee of Russia, with the assistance of other local authorities, responded to a residential complex in Moscow after a male suspect functioned a radio-controlled IED, killing a Lieutenant General and his assistant. According to media reporting, the suspect attached the IED—containing explosives equal to 300 grams to 1 kg of TNT—to the handlebars of an electric scooter near the building's entrance, detonated the device remotely, and fled the scene.
On 16 December 2024, Army soldiers conducted a patrol following reports of an encampment of armed men in a rural area in Michoacan state. Soldiers discovered dismembered bodies at the site, and while approaching the bodies, an IED described as a buried pipe bomb functioned, killing two soldiers and injuring five others. Military authorities responded to the incident and attributed the explosion to gang activity in the area. No additional details have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
On 18 December 2024, at approximately 0300 hours local time, Montreal police responded to the Congregation Beth Tikvah synagogue in Dollard-des-Ormeaux following reports of a small fire. Police extinguished the fire and discovered the remnants of an improvised incendiary device (IID). According to Montreal police, witnesses observed a suspect flee the scene prior to the arrival of police. No injuries were reported; however, the device damaged the building's front door and a window. The investigation is ongoing.
On 11 December 2024, at approximately 2300 hours local time, Houston Police Department’s (HPD) Northeast Crime Suppression Team attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near Tidwell Drive and Jensen Drive in Houston. The driver refused to leave the car and claimed that he had multiple firearms and explosives in the vehicle. HPD’s SWAT Team arrived at the scene to assist and convinced the suspect to throw the weapons out of the car. Investigators recovered several firearms and a small quantity of explosives from the scene. No injuries were reported during the standoff.
On 25 November 2024, at approximately 0625 hours local time, Brentwood Fire and Rescue crews responded to the 1200 block of Warner Court in Brentwood for a report of smoke coming from a home. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the remnants of several IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, were found at the scene. The home sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
On 6 December 2024, Pike County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop in McComb on a suspicious vehicle, which fled the scene, leading deputies on a brief chase. The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle at the intersection of 5th Street and Brine Avenue and fled, but deputies located and arrested the suspect. Inside the vehicle, PCSO deputies discovered an IED with a fuse, prompting them to request the assistance of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security Bomb Squad. Bomb technicians removed the device from the scene for later disposal.
8 December 2024, at approximately 0200 hours local time, Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) officers responded to a home on Southeast 8th Avenue in Cape Coral after a man allegedly threatened a resident with an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, before threatening to throw the IID at a car in the driveway. The suspect also brandished a sword and allegedly threatened the homeowner with it. The interaction was caught on home surveillance video, and officers located the 36-year-old male suspect at his residence nearby.
On 6 December 2024, the Carabinieri of the Bagnoli operational unit seized a large quantity of explosives from a warehouse in the San Pietro a Patierno district in Naples. Among the explosives found were IEDs described as homemade pyrotechnics, including “700 cobra devices” and “17 onions.” Another IED weighing 50 grams and 3 kilograms [~6.6 pounds] of commercial pyrotechnic cake devices were also found. The explosive material was given to bomb disposal experts of the Provincial Command of Naples for disposal.
On 7 December 2024, an individual functioned a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED), described as a motorcycle laden with explosives, at a police security checkpoint in the community of Las Penas in Jamundi municipality, Department of Valle de Cauca. The resulting explosion killed the driver of the motorcycle and injured seven civilians and seven police officers. A Cali Metropolitan police commander stated that the driver had become scared after being directed to a security checkpoint prior to detonating the device. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
