On 26 August 2019 at approximately 1345 hours local time, an IED was discovered inside a commercial business in the town of Liskeard in Cornwall. Devon and Cornwall Police responded to the scene and evacuated the area while they removed the IED. No device details were provided, and the investigation is ongoing.

Arizona: Explosive Device Discovered During Traffic Stop

On 24 August 2019, officers from the Tucson Police Department (TPD) pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop. During the stop, an officer spotted an unidentified explosive device on the vehicle’s center console. The TPD Bomb Squad responded to the scene to render safe the device. Officers arrested both vehicle occupants. Upon a subsequent search, officers also discovered methamphetamine and an illegally owned firearm. Charges are pending against both suspects.

Cyprus: IED Discovered in Village

On 25 August 2019, Cyprus Police received a report regarding an IED emplaced in the Gialia village. The device was placed in a paper package, and authorities removed it for further examination. Cyprus Police arrested two male suspects in connection with the IED, and the investigation is ongoing.

New Jersey: Portable Toilet Explodes at Construction Site

On 25 August 2019 at approximate 1950 hours local time, an explosion went off in a portable toilet at a construction site, completely destroying the facilities. No injuries were reported. The Camden County Bomb Squad investigated the incident and declared it safe but was unable to identify the cause of the explosion. The Washington Township Police and Washington Township Fire Marshal are investigating the incident.

China: IIDs Used During Protests

On 25 August 2019, protesters threw improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) at police officers and riot police during pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. There are no reports of the IIDs causing injuries. Police responded by using tear gas to disperse the protesters, and at least one officer fired a warning shot. Since the start of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong in June, IIDs have become an increasingly common weapon used by some protesters against police.
