Ireland: Suspected IED Taped to Vehicle Door

On 15 August 2019 at approximately 0900 hours local time, Garda Police received a report regarding a suspicious item taped to a vehicle door in Coolock. Upon arrival, Garda Police cordoned off the area and dispatched the Irish Army Ordnance Corps EOD team to investigate the suspicious item. The EOD team performed render safe procedures without incident. The item has not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

Massachusetts: Vehicle Fire Caused by IID

On 14 August 2019 at approximately 0330 hours local time, the Springfield Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire without incident. According to the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad, the fire was caused by an improvised incendiary device (IID) described as a Molotov cocktail. The investigation is ongoing.

North Carolina: IID Discovered in Vehicle During Traffic Stop

On 13 August 2019, Onslow County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a driver suspected of operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Upon initial examination of the vehicle, deputies discovered drug-related items in the front seat and an improvised incendiary device (IID). Investigators described the IID as a Molotov cocktail. The driver was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

Ohio: Suspect Targets Occupied Residence with IID

On 5 August 2019, a 55-year-old female suspect attempted to set fire to an occupied house with a Molotov cocktail-type improvised incendiary device (IID). The woman filled a bottle with gasoline and lit a cloth from the open end, then threw the device through the front window of a residence. The IID broke the first pane of glass but failed to shatter the second. Two adults and a baby were in the residence at the time of the attack, but no injuries were reported.
