On 30 August 2019 at approximately 1230 hours local time, an international businessman sustained serious injuries after an IED emplaced in his vehicle detonated in Westlake, Cape Town. The device, which included a cellphone attachment, was planted under the driver’s seat and blasted a hole through the floor of the vehicle. Western Cape police, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, the South African Police Service Bomb Squad and K9 unit, and crime scene experts are investigating the incident.

On 23 August 2019, Homeland Security Investigations agents searched the home of a 52-year-old male suspected of selling marijuana. In the home, authorities discovered seven explosive devices, multiple firearms, ammunition, marijuana, cocaine, and a variety of drug paraphernalia. Authorities did not provide details about the explosive devices, only saying they were constructed with a hot glue gun. The suspect was arrested and faces multiple Federal charges.

On 28 August 2019 at approximately 1500 hours local time, CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force agents discovered an IED and firearms while searching for illegal substances at a Danube residence. Agents arrested three people at the home and removed a juvenile. The search yielded 1.5 lb of methamphetamine, suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 20 firearms, and the IED. The Bloomington Bomb Squad performed a controlled detonation of the device.

On 29 August 2019 just before 0000 hours local time, a homeowner discovered two explosive devices emplaced outside the front and back doors of a residence. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Bomb Squad responded to the scene and executed a controlled detonation of the devices. No threats were made toward the homeowners, and the investigation is ongoing.

On 28 August 2019 at approximately 2130 hours local time, Warwickshire Police responded to a report of an improvised incendiary device (IID) attack on a private residence. According to social media reports, a woman was sitting in her front room when an IID was thrown through a window, covering the victim with shattered glass and gasoline. No injuries were reported, and the device failed to ignite. The investigation is ongoing.
