Greece: Unknown Attackers Throw Explosive Device at Russian Consulate in Athens

On 22 March 2019, unknown individuals on a motorcycle threw an explosive device at the Russian consulate in Athens before fleeing the scene. A police spokesperson told press that the device may have been a hand grenade based on the size of the explosion. No injuries were reported, and no group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Netherlands: Amsterdam Subway Station Damaged by ATM Explosive Attack

On 21 March 2019 at approximately 0330 hours local time, two suspects detonated an explosive device in an attempt to rob an ATM in Amsterdam’s Ganzenhoef subway station. The device damaged the ATM and the entrance to the station but no injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene. The Dutch National Police and Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service responded and are investigating. There is no further information on the device.

Georgia: IED and Associated Components Discovered During Traffic Stop

On 19 March 2019, Houston County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies discovered an IED along with drugs and stolen guns during a routine traffic stop in Warner Robins. HCSO subsequently executed search warrants at the residences of the 55-year-old and 52-year-old female suspects and discovered unidentified associated components. The suspects were arrested on multiple charges, including possession of a destructive device. There is no further information on the device.

Ohio: Two Injured after Igniting an IED

On 20 March 2019 at approximately 1945 hours local time, two juvenile boys were injured after igniting an IED described as a modified pyrotechnic device in an alley near college off-campus housing. Oxford Police Department officers responded. Both juveniles were taken to the hospital to treat their wounds. Butler County Bomb Squad technicians recovered post-blast evidence for further lab analysis. There is no further information on the device and an investigation is ongoing.
