Burkina Faso: Passengers Injured and Bus Damaged by Roadside IED

On 26 March 2019, a public transit bus traveling from Djibo to Ouagadougou was struck by an IED. Media reports indicate passengers suffered serious injuries and the bus sustained extensive damage. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack but the investigation is ongoing.

Tennessee: Detonated IED Discovered on Road

On 21 March 2019, Tennessee state troopers and Grundy County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to reports of a suspected IED discovered in a ditch on the side of Daus Mountain Road just north of Palmer. According to the Grundy County Sheriff, the device appeared to have been detonated. Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations troopers removed and disposed of the device remains. Authorities recovered the device casing, shrapnel, and a powder from the scene.

Maryland: Pipe Bomb Safely Detonated Near Lake Linganore

On 24 March 2019 at approximately 1600 hours local time, the Maryland State Fire Marshals (MSFM), Maryland State Police Bomb Squad (MSPBS), and United Fire Company’s ATV unit responded to reports of a suspicious package found near Lake Linganore. The suspicious package was described as a pipe bomb. The MSFM and MSPBS rendered safe the device with no reported injuries. There is no further information on the device but the investigation is ongoing.

California: Pipe Bomb Found During Probation Check

On 22 March 2019, Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force officers found a pipe bomb and ammunition during the search of a residence as part of a probation compliance check. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team technicians responded to the scene and rendered safe the pipe bomb. The 42-year-old male resident was arrested for possession of a destructive device. No further device-related details were provided.
