Oregon: Suspected Explosive Device Found During Traffic Stop

On 11 March 2019 at approximately 0000 hours local time, Portland Police Department officers arrested a man with a warrant outside a convenience store and discovered a suspected explosive device while executing a search of his pickup truck. The Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit safely removed the device from the scene. There is no further information at this time on whether the device was explosive.

Oklahoma: IEDs Discovered at Site of Double Homicide

On 8 March 2019, Edmond Police returned to the scene of a double homicide with a search warrant and the Edmond Police Bomb Squad. After a search lasting several hours, police uncovered multiple guns and knives, an AR-15, four IEDs, and an inert grenade, along with handwritten notes. Technicians left the house with three bags and placed them inside the mobile bomb unit. The victims’ 19-year-old son is accused of the murders.

Somalia: VBIED Kills and Injures Numerous People Outside Restaurant

On 7 March 2019, a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED) detonated outside a restaurant near a checkpoint for the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, killing at least five civilians and soldiers and injuring nine others. There is no further information on the device or method of initiation. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
