Kuwait: IED Bound for United States Seized at Kuwait Airport

On 11 April 2019, Kuwait International Airport security discovered an IED concealed in a hollowed out book. The device consisted of TNT, batteries, and a circuit board connected by wires. According to media reports, the device was intended to be sent to a military office in the United States. Kuwaiti authorities are investigating the incident.

France: Explosive Device Destroys Vehicle in Corsica

On 11 April 2019 at approximately 2330 hours local time, an explosive device functioned and destroyed a parked vehicle in the town of Monte in northern Corsica. No injuries were reported, and no individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack. No additional details regarding device construction are available, and the investigation is ongoing. Since March 2019, multiple explosive devices have functioned or were found to be emplaced targeting vehicles and private residences.

Pakistan: PBIED Attack Leaves at Least 20 Dead, 48 Injured

On 12 April 2019, a suicide person-borne IED (PBIED) functioned at a vegetable market in Quetta’s Hazarganji district, killing at least 20 people and injuring at least 48 others. According to a police official, the attacker was disguised as a laborer at the market when he detonated the IED. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a Sunni militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack targeting the Hazara Shia Muslim community.

Australia: Man Arrested After Detonating IED

On 12 April 2019 at approximately 0430 hours local time, an IED functioned on a residential street in Glenelg North, damaging two vehicles. Eastern District Police (EDP) officers responded and arrested a 39-year-old male suspect at his residence. According to EDP, the attack was targeted. The suspect was charged with use of an explosive device, property damage, breach of intervention order, and breach of bail. There is no further information on the device.

India: Politician Killed in Roadside IED Attack

On 9 April 2019, an IED functioned along a roadside in the central state of Chhattisgarh, killing a state politician and four members of his security team. No further details regarding construction of the device were available from reporting. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, but a police spokesperson told the press that Maoist militants are likely responsible.
