Nigeria: PBIED Attack Kills Five, Injures Others

On 6 April 2019, two female suicide bombers detonated person-borne IEDs (PBIEDs) in a crowd in the Muna-Dalti area of Maiduguri. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the attack to news outlets and reported that three people were killed in addition to the two suicide bombers, while at least 45 others were injured. At the time of reporting, no organizations have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Indiana: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Roadside

On 6 April 2019, Mason County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the discovery of a pipe bomb concealed inside an unspecified package along a roadside in Elwood. No additional details were available regarding device construction. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal technicians responded and rendered safe the device. No suspects were identified, and the investigation is ongoing into the origin of the device.

Missouri: Pipe Bomb Brought to County Jail

On 6 April 2019, the road in front of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department offices in Farmington was briefly closed after a local resident discovered what was described as a pipe bomb and brought it in for disposal. Missouri State Highway Patrol bomb disposal technicians responded, but no outcome was reported. No information was available regarding the construction of the device or where it had originally been found.

Pennsylvania: IED Discovered in Home

On 4 April 2019 at approximately 1140 hours local time, Slate Belt Regional Police (SBRP) officers responded to reports of an IED at a private residence in Plainfield Township. The device was discovered by the deceased owner’s relatives while cleaning out the home. Upon examination by SBRP, the Bethlehem Bomb Squad was dispatched to render safe the device. A subsequent search of the home did not yield any other devices. No injuries were reported and no charges will be filed since the resident is deceased.

Ukraine: Explosion Kills Man While Emplacing IED

On 4 April 2019 at approximately 0200 hours local time, a male suspect was attempting to emplace an IED under the car of a Ukrainian security officer when the device functioned prematurely, killing the suspect. According to media reports, the security officer was believed to be targeted for taking part in military operations against Russian-backed separatists. There is no further information on the device and the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
