West Virginia: Pipe Bomb Discovered on Employee’s Desk, 1 Arrested

On 19 December 2022, Huntington Police Department officers arrested a 58-year-old suspect after co-workers found a suspected pipe bomb on his workstation at a steel company in Cabell County. According to authorities, the suspect made several threats to other employees after becoming disgruntled following a 16 December talk with his supervisor. No further device details have been released. The suspect was charged with making terroristic threats, and the investigation is ongoing.

Maryland: IID Used to Target Jehovah's Witnesses Facility

On 21 November 2022, at approximately 0410 hours local time, The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal responded after the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses facility in Salisbury was targeted with an improvised incendiary device (IID), prompting a fire that was confined to the outside door frame. No further device details have been released. The fire burned itself out and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Pennsylvania: Roadside IED Functioned, 2 Arrested

On 11 November 2022, at approximately 2159 hours local time, Ridley Township Police Department (RTPD) officers responded to Sellers Avenue in Ridley Park after a roadside IED was functioned. No further device details have been released, and no injuries were reported. Delaware County CID Detectives, ATF agents, and the Montgomery County Explosives Unit responded to assist. Authorities conducted a search of the area, and no secondary devices were discovered. On 17 November, RTPD announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the explosion.

Pennsylvania: IEDs, BMM Discovered Inside Residence

On 14 November 2022, at approximately 1400 hours local time, Carbondale Police Department (CPD) officers, a Lackawanna County SWAT team, and Scranton Police Department Bomb Unit raided a residence in Simpson and recovered 13 IEDs, bomb-making material (BMM), and marijuana from the house. No further details about the IEDs or BMM have been released. A male suspect was arrested and is facing several charges including possession of explosive or incendiary materials or devices. The incident remains under investigation.
