Pennsylvania: IED Discovered While Clearing Brush Fire

On 12 April 2023, at approximately 2200 hours local time, Tamaqua Borough Police Department officers and Tamaqua Fire Department crews responded to an area near Biddle Street and Clark Street after a report of a brush fire and discovered an IED while they were clearing it. No further device details have been released. The FBI and Allentown Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist in rendering the device safe. The investigation is ongoing.

Pennsylvania: IEDs Discovered in Residence, 2 Arrested

On 21 February 2023, Nazareth Police Department officers discovered IEDs, nine firearms, and narcotics, while responding to a domestic incident at a residence on Easton Road. Bethlehem Bomb Squad technicians responded to the scene and removed the IEDs. No further device details have been released. Two suspects, a 53-year-old male and 56-year-old male, were arrested and are facing multiple charges. The investigation is ongoing.

Pennsylvania: Pipe Bomb Discovered Behind Church

On 19 February 2023, at approximately 1340 hours local time, Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) officers responded to St. Dominic Catholic Church on Frankford Avenue after a pipe bomb was discovered behind the church in the cemetery. The PPD Bomb Squad responded to assist, examined the pipe bomb, described as a capped 18-inch PVC pipe containing an unknown powder with black powder residue on the device, and safely removed it from the scene for further analysis. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Pennsylvania: IED Discovered at Gas Transmission Facility

On 26 January 2023, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) troopers responded to a gas transmission facility in Fallowfield Township after an IED was found wedged into the door of an industrial gas pipe. No further device details have been released. The FBI and PSP Hazardous Device and Explosives Section technicians responded to assist and removed the device. The investigation is ongoing.
