On 17 January 2023, at approximately 1500 hours local time, North Port Police Department (NPPD) officers responded to U.S. 41 and Eager Avenue after a man attempted to sell a live (unfired) 75mm ordnance from World War I at a nearby pawn shop. According to officers, the man came across the ordnance after helping a friend clean out their house. Explosive experts from NPPD, Sarasota Police Department, and MacDill Air Force Base also responded to assist, and the ordnance was transported to the base to be rendered safe.

North Carolina: IID Discovered Near Daycare Following Fire

On 17 January 2023, at approximately 2130 hours local time, the Wendell Police Department and Wendall Fire Department responded to a daycare on Raymond Drive due to a reported fire. Officers discovered an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, near the building. According to media reporting, the IID appeared to consist of a wine bottle containing a flammable chemical with a burned cork sticking out the top. No injuries were reported, and no further device details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Florida: IID Emplaced on Vehicle

On 13 December 2022, at approximately 0500 hours local time, firefighters responded to a residence in the Northside area of Jacksonville after an unidentified suspect emplaced an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as Molotov cocktail, on the hood of a vehicle parked in the home’s driveway before lighting it, prompting an explosion. No further device details have been released. The vehicle sustained moderate damage, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Kentucky: IEDs and BMM Discovered on Road

On 16 December 2022, at approximately 0830 hours local time, Bardstown Police Department officers responded to North 1st Street in Bardstown after receiving a call for a suspicious device on the road and discovered IEDs and bomb-making material (BMM). No further device details or details on the BMM have been released. The Kentucky State Police and Louisville Metro Police bomb squads responded and removed the IEDs and BMM. The ATF is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
