North Carolina: Explosive Device Functioned in Mailbox

On 22 March 2023, at approximately 1630 hours local time, Wake County Sheriff's Office deputies responded after an explosive device functioned in the mailbox of a residence on Appaloosa Run, north of Interstate 540. No further device details have been released. No damages or injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.

Florida: Ordnance Discovered at Residence

On 27 February 2023, at approximately 2020 hours local time, Hialeah Police Department officers responded to a residence on West 54th Street after a man found an object in a tin can that appeared to be a grenade. The tin can, reportedly inherited from a friend that had recently passed away, was examined by authorities, and confirmed to contain a grenade. The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Bomb Disposal Unit responded to the assist and determined that the device was inert and removed it from the scene for safe disposal.

On 4 February 2023, Buncombe County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a barn in Barnardsville after a commercial explosive, described as decaying nitroglycerin dynamite, was discovered. Asheville Police Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and conducted render safe procedures.
